LAHORE: Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said his organisation will award laptops and other prizes to 600 outstanding students of more than 400 technical colleges located across Punjab.

While addressing a meeting on Thursday at the TEVTA secretariat, Sheikh said the board decided to reward those students who attained good percentages in their examination and grabbed top positions in the Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) Annual Examination. The rewards will be laptops for toppers and cash prizes for other position holders, he added.

Sheikh informed the meeting that there were 400 colleges under TEVTA and the awards will be given to 252 students of the Diploma in Associate Engineering (DAE), 126 students of the two-year diploma programme, 108 students of the one-year diploma, 72 students of the two-year vocational diploma and 36 students of the one-year vocational diploma.

He also announced that students grabbing the top three positions in PBTE annual examination will be awarded special prizes.

Sheikh said a decision was taken to acknowledge hardworking students who spent day and night to excel. He added that by awarding good performers, the competition will increase and eventually boost the morale of students.

TEVTA may restart institutes in jails

“The outstanding students were the pride of TEVTA and represent the authority not only in Pakistan, but across the globe,” he said.

The chairman said that times had changed as people preferred technical education over conventional methods. “There are more chances of jobs after technical education and a person with such expertise can earn two times more than a somebody with a conventional education, he said.

He added TEVTA was not only focusing on quantity, but also quality. “For this purpose, TEVTA was establishing a university in collaboration with a Chinese university,” he added. “In this institute, an 80 percent quota has been specified for DAE students.”
