Amanullah group wins CDA referendum

ISLAMABAD: A group led by the Pakistan Peoples Party-aligned Ammanullah group has won the Capital Development Authority referendum.

The labour union elections saw a close fight between the group led by Amanullah and the group led by Chaudhry Yasin. The former secured 5,964 votes for a three-year-term while the latter came second with 5,415 votes.

Poling for the union started at 9am and ended at 5pm at 32 polling stations set up at different offices of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). According to the unofficial results announced by the election committee, around 12,228 non-gazette employees voted with a turnout of 93 per cent.

Before polling began, a huge rash was seen at polling booths. The election saw the entire city decorated with costly panaflex banners of the candidates. The campaigning also meant that routine office work of the civic body stalled.
