Indian police, on Sunday, arrested a woman in Hyderabad, India, for allegedly forcing her four-year-old daughter to sit on a hot frying pan in order to get rid of her, reported Hindustan Times.

The girl suffered multiple burn injuries on her back and legs, Indian police reported. The victim is Lalitha M’s biological daughter from her first marriage, the police further added. The police suspect that both Lalitha and her second husband Y Prakash were involved in playing a role in this incident.

Afterwards, the couple took the girl to a combined support centre for women and children in India called Bharosa, claiming they had found her by the roadside, honorary president of city-based child rights NGO Achyuta Rao said.

On further investigation, it was exposed that the child was being “tortured” by the couple, “who wanted to get rid of her”.

“The girl was found with burn injuries on her body after her mother allegedly made her sit on a hot frying pan,” said S R Nagar police station’s inspector Md Waheeduddin, adding that it looks like the girl suffered the injuries a few days ago.

The police filed a case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act against the couple based on a complaint from an official of the Telangana’s (a state in southern India) child welfare department, the official stated.

The girl was rescued and admitted to a hospital, the police inspector said, adding further investigation is being pursued.
