Bahria University bids farewell to 905 graduates

37 gold and 27 silver medals awarded to outstanding students

KARACHI: The 14th convocation of Bahria University’s Karachi campus was held at the Maritime Museum’s convention hall on Sunday.

Former Higher Education Commission chairperson and federal science and technology minister Dr Attaur Rehman was the chief guest at the ceremony.

He distributed degrees amongst the PhD, postgraduate and undergraduate programme students. Degrees were distributed to 905 graduate and undergraduate students from various departments of the varsity’s Karachi campus such as management sciences, professional psychology, computer science, humanities and social sciences, electrical engineering, software engineering, Earth and environmental sciences and media sciences.

Dr Rehman distributed 37 gold and 27 silver medals among high achieving students. He congratulated the graduating students on their excellent performance and also commended Bahria University for its extraordinary role in educating such a large group of young individuals. He praised the role of the Pakistan Navy in furthering the progress of the country with the establishment of such a high-quality educational institution.

He said that in national development, there could be no better service than providing youngsters with high-quality education opportunities.

Earlier Bahria University Rector Vice Admiral (retd) Tanveer Faiz, a recipient of the Hilal-i-Imtiaz award, in the inaugural address thanked guests for attending the convocation. He said the culture of superior education was spreading in educational institutions in Pakistan and in this regard Bahria University had devised a strategy to deal with future challenges while maintaining its high standard of education. Applauding Bahria University for its endeavors, Vice Admiral Faiz said the university was providing an excellent educational environment, advanced laboratories and highly qualified teachers to postgraduate and undergraduate students attending the varsity. He also pointed out that new steps were being taken in various departments to further improve the standard of education, such as the initiation of new programmes like the PhD in computer science, masters in media studies and bachelors in English literature and linguistics, among others.
