COLOMBO:

A closely-competed encounter saw Pakistan Women claim a two-wicket victory over hosts Sri Lanka in the first One-Day International (ODI) of the Quadrangular Series in Colombo.

Put into bat, Sri Lanka could only manage a paltry 68. Eshani Kaushalya, 26, top-scored for the hosts with an unbeaten 23 while opener Avanthika Mendis (13) was the other notable scorer. Mendis was dismissed by leg-spinner Bismah Maroof when wicket-keeper Batool Fatima took a comfortable catch.

Pakistan’s medium-fast bowler Qanita Jalil and captain Sana Mir took two wickets each to restrict the Sri Lankan players to a low total.

In reply, Pakistan Women reached the target for the loss of eight wickets with Maroof, who top-scored with 22, and Nida Dar (16) steering their team to victory.
