The announcement to reopen educational institutions in the capital was made by both, those in the public, as well as the private sector as normalcy, started to creep back into the city on Monday.
On Sunday, educational institutions in the twin cities had announced plans to remain closed on Monday in the wake of precarious law and order situation to avoid any mishap and inconvenience to students and parents.
The decision was made after at least six people were killed and over 250 were injured as the security forces tried to evict the protesters from the Faizabad interchange, which they had occupied since November 8.
Public schools and colleges in Rawalpindi, however, will remain closed on Tuesday since the Punjab government’s education department had announced a two-day closure - November 27 and 28 both in public and private schools, colleges and institutes of higher learning — on Sunday.
While most private schools in the capital have announced to reopen on Tuesday, Beaconhouse said they were following the Punjab government and hence will remain closed. Moreover, some private schools in Rawalpindi announced plans to open on Tuesday since they have already lost quite a bit of academic time due to unrest in the city.
“Admissions for Class IX and X are being sent to the examinations boards and the coming Friday (Rabiul Awwal 12) will be a public holiday too, so we have decided to open,” said Ibrar Ahmad Khan, associated with the Rawalpindi Private Schools Association.
“It is up to them [private schools] if they wish to open or not, but we have announced our decision and most of them may be opening,” he added.
