The Indian-occupied Kashmir (IoK) on Monday observed a complete shutdown to protest brutalities and ill-treatment meted out to the detained Kashmiris languishing in jails, Radio Pakistan reported.

The joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik gave a call for the strike.

“Indian army, paramilitary forces and police have turned occupied Kashmir into a hell by killing, blinding and injuring thousands of people and ransacking properties worth millions of rupees,” said the leadership in a statement in Srinagar.

The Hurriyat leaders were of the view that an unfair “blanket ban has been put on all political activities in the valley.”
