IHC issues contempt notices to QAU officials

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday issued contempt notices to Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Masoom Yaseen Zai and Registrar Dr Shafeequur Rehman for continuously abstaining from proceeding of a petition filed by a university student and demonstrator. The court also issued contempt notices to controller examination and deputy registrar of the university and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.

Justice Anwar Khan Kasi resumed hearing of the petition filed by a senior demonstrator of Quaid-i-Azam Medical College Bahawalpur, Dr S M Tariq, who is also an MPhil student at the university.

The petitioner, through his counsel, Advocate Munir Paracha, apprised the court that vice-chancellor of QAU and the university’s registrar did not comply with the court’s earlier directions of issuing extension for the petitioner’s MPhil thesis. He said the university officials did not even provide him an opportunity of personal hearing and decided his case unilaterally.
