During his career, Murad appeared in films with top heroines of his time including Shabnam, Durdana Rahman, Babra Sharif and Shamim Ara. “Waheed was one of the first educated actors in our film industry. During his time, every actress wanted to be paired opposite him. No Lollywood hero has ever gotten the fame he did and he really set an example for everyone to follow,” actor Durdana Rahman told The Express Tribune.

Discovering Waheed Murad’s inspirations

The Heera Aur Pathar star belonged to a family familiar with the film business. “Waheed was blessed with every kind of talent that is necessary in the film industry. He was an actor, producer, director and scriptwriter, while his father was a film distributor and producer. He was a talented gentleman and there is no doubt that there has been no one else like him,” added senior film director Altaf Hussain.

The jack of all trades kicked off his film career as a producer. He first joined Film Art Productions – a company established by his father Nasar Murad – and made his production debut with Insaan Badalta Hai. He appeared in many super hit films and TV serials including Armaan, Doraha, Raaste Ka Pathar, Badnaam, Gun Man, Zanjeer and Zameer, amongst many others.

“Every year we miss Waheed sir on his death anniversary and arrange his films shows at cinemas in Lahore. This year, his blockbusters will be screened as well and a programme will also be held in honour of his death anniversary,” said senior film producer Chaudhry Ejaz Kamran.
