KARACHI:

A man who allegedly killed his brother-in-law over money was given protective bail for a week against a surety of Rs50,000 and a personal bond in the same amount by Justice Tufail H Ebrahim on Monday.

The accused, Shahid Qureshi, was booked by Nabi Bux police station, under the Criminal Procedure Code Section 302, on a complaint filed by Muhammad Furqan on April 20. Furqan alleged that the victim and the killer had a fight and the accused drew out his gun during several such arguments. Qureshi threatened to kill his brother-in-law if he failed to pay him, he said.

On Monday, Qureshi’s counsel Mumtaz Ali Khan Deshmukh submitted that the accused belongs to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and has a number of enemies due to his political affiliation. He said that Qureshi is being implicated on false grounds as there were no witnesses to the murder.

After hearing the counsel, the court directed Qureshi to surrender before the trial court within a week.
