Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said his country will contain Iran at any cost even if it means ‘acting alone’.

“Iran is scheming to entrench itself militarily in Syria,” he said while addressing a Jewish Federation of North America’s General Assembly in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Netanyahu said by deploying its troops in Syria to fight the terrorists, Iran is planning to attack Israel. He said that Iran plans to stay in Syria perpetually “with the declared intent of using Syria as a base from which to destroy Israel”.

Speaking about the historic nuclear deal between Iran and other regional powers, he said the universally hailed document a mistake with the help of which Iran will “produce hundreds of nuclear weapons” after “about a decade”.

The Israeli PM demanded countries to come together against Iran but said he will act alone if need be.

“If we stand together we will achieve it. But if we have to – we'll stand alone. Iran will not get nuclear weapons. It will not turn Syria into a military base against Israel,” Netanyahu said.

Moments after this statement by Netanyahu, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said both the Iranian and Russian military presence in Syria was “legitimate… at the invitation of the lawful government”.

On the other hand, Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad recently thanked Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei for supporting his country when it faced the menace of terrorism.

"The Syrian Arab Republic and the Islamic Republic of Iran are continuing the fight against oppression and aggression and eliminating the threats of terrorism," Assad wrote in a letter sent to the Iranian leader.

Ali | 6 years ago | Reply I wish Israel makes this mistake to mess with Iran. That will be the end of this thorn in Arab land. They should remain in their limits. Granting land to Israel was a mistake and will be rectified. Inshallah. PS. I have nothing personal with Jews.
