Afshan scores nine goals in Diya FC’s win

Marta FC thrashed 22-0 in club football championship.

Diya Football Club registered the biggest win of the fourth National Women’s Club Football Championship when they thrashed Marta FC 22-0 in their Group A match yesterday.


Diya FC’s Afshan Altaf remained the star of the day when she scored nine goals at the Agha Khan Gymkhana Ground in Karachi. Hajra Khan followed her captain with eight goals and Maryam Laghari and Rukhsar Rashidi netted a brace each as Diya ran riot.

“I can’t believe one of my girls has created history in the women’s football in Pakistan,” Diya FC manager and goal-keeper Sadia Sheikh told The Express Tribune. “Altaf is the leading scorer at the moment with 14 goals in just two matches. It shows that there is a lot of potential in our players and with this team we can lift the national title this year.”

Diya FC are leading Group A with six points while Karachi Kickers moved to second when they beat TC Club 4-0.

Meanwhile, Lahore University of Management Sciences defeated Lahore Grammar School 2-0. Defending champions Young Rising Stars FC Rawalpindi outplayed their sister club Young Rising Stars Layyah7-0 in group C. In other matches of the day, Sports Sciences FC defeated Lahore School of Economics 3-0 in Lahore and Sargodha University crushed Hazara Shaheen FC 16-0 in Islamabad.
