15 farmers booked, 20 units sealed

The farmers said industrial units are solely responsible for the nuisance

SHEIKHUPURA: Sheikhupura Deputy Commissioner Arqam Tariq told The Express Tribune that the district administration warned the farmers not to burn residue of the crops that led to environment pollution.

He added 15 farmers had been booked, while 20 units of steel industries were also sealed for violating the rule.

Similarly, DO Environment Imtiaz Ahmed said the department sealed 34 units, including nine plastic factories and four pyrolysis plants in the district. He added strict action will be taken against those factories which failed to follow environment protection laws.

Meanwhile, the farmers said that they had little contribution in environment pollution and industrial units are solely responsible for the nuisance.
