KARACHI:

Pakistan’s Mohammad Sajjad opened his campaign at the Asian Snooker Championship in style when he defeated Iraq’s Ahmed Hassan Hadi 4-1 in Indore in a Group A clash.

Sajjad, who was the runners-up in last year’s edition, began the match with confidence as he took the opening two frames 62-28 and 91-0, the latter with a break of 90. However, Hadi fought back to secure the third frame 80-69. Sajjad won the fourth frame 72-12 and sealed the win by winning the fifth 73-13.

Before leaving for India, Sajjad had declared that his target was to win the championship and that he would try his best to at least hold on to his Asia number two spot. He will now face Qatar’s Ali Mohsin Khamis in his next match.
