PESHAWAR: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Provincial Chief Mushtaq Ahmad has lambasted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government over its decision to implement co-education system in degree colleges and schools, terming it a "ticking time bomb" for the youth.

"We will never tolerate a boy and girl sitting together as it will fragment our societal values," he remarked while addressing a student convention on Thursday arranged by the party’s student wing – Islami Jamiat-e-Talba.

“It’s a ticking time bomb for the youth and we will never accept Americanisation or Westernisation in the education system,” he added.

The JI leader went on to say that the provincial government formulated the policy of co-education from nursery to fifth grade which will never be accepted by the party.

Ahmad further said the decision to implement the same system in the bachelors degree programme in colleges should be also be cancelled.

According to the JI leader, fifth graders are by no longer children in the current modern era of science and technology.

"Children who are 10 or 11 years of age should not be seated together,” Ahmad said.

The JI leader also raised his objections over the K-P education department's newly-approved logos which has similarities with western culture which isn’t tolerated in Islam.

Ahmad was talking about the controversy that had erupted over the logo of the K-P Elementary and Secondary Education Department which many said had some sort of similarities with the logo of the Lesbian, Gays, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) – an organisation working for the their rights.
