ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Friday that the increase in energy demand was a manifestation of enhanced economic activities in the country.

Talking to Water and Power Minister Syed Naveed Qamar, who called on him at the Prime Minister House, Gilani said that the government was taking measures to bridge the gap between demand and supply of power, adding that many foreign companies were interested in investing in the power sector due to the government’s investor-friendly policies.

He asked Qamar to devise methods for exploring alternative energy sources to meet future energy needs. He stressed the need for consulting respective organisations of developed countries to share their experiences and called for formulating policies to enhance public-private partnership and improved investment in the energy sector.

The prime minister asked Qamar to take all stakeholders on board in finalising the electricity load management plan for the summer.

Referring to the compensation to be paid to people being displaced by the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, he asked the minister to look into the matter and resolve the issue amicably in consultation with stakeholders from Chillas and Diamer.

After all they have been given the Mandate by the people to act on their behalf !!!! Sadly they have forgotten to make any sacrifices themselves, even as PR exercise! But give them credit, they are good at travelling in style abroad at every given chance!!! But this too is for the people!!
