HYDERABAD: A polio team was allegedly assaulted on Tuesday at a private residence in Hyderabad by two individuals who were reluctant to have their children immunised. The local police arrested two brothers of the main suspect, Saeed Qureshi, and charged them under an FIR.
Qureshi allegedly slapped a female health worker, Shamim, and hurled an iron rod on the other team member, Naveed Khaskhelo. Dr Rizwan Baloch, on whose complaint the case was registered, accused Qureshi and his brothers, Shahid and Faisal, of attacking the team.
According to the FIR, Qureshi came out after the polio team knocked on the door of his residence in the Heerabad area and flatly disallowed the team to immunise the children, but the team tried to persuade him. The discussion turned into an argument and the alleged assault transpired. The two brothers later joined Qureshi in manhandling and abusing the team.
