‘Efforts underway to revamp traffic in Quetta’

 QUETTA: Senior Superintendent Police of Traffic Nazeer Kurd said on Monday that the traffic police were taking timely actions against those violating traffic laws, adding computerised driving licence and the e-challan system would yield better results in the future.

“Efforts are underway to revamp traffic issues in Quetta, particularly during school times. Moreover, we have been strictly enforcing a ban on heavy vehicles’ entering the city before 8:00pm,” Traffic SSP Nazeer Kurd said while chairing a reviewing session regarding traffic-related issues in Quetta city.

City SSP Muhammad Javed, Saddar SSP Ali Nawaz, and other traffic officials were also present.

Kurd said strict action would be taken over double parking and violation of no-parking areas in the city. “Young drivers should be treated with more patience and love and parents [of unlicenced youth] should not let them drive,” Nazeer Kurd said and added traffic police is responsible for taking care of people in Quetta instead of disturbing them.

On the issue computerised driving licences, the traffic SSP said, “We are going to introduce computerised licence that can be verified in any part of the world with a QR Code.

“We are launching an e-challan system where fines can be paid over the Internet.”

Quetta Traffic Police had installed 33 spikes on various roads of the provincial capital in an attempt to control appalling traffic flow.

“The experience of installing spikes in Quetta has given positive results and more spikes would be installed on one-way routes to prevent traffic from entering one-way streets,” he said.
