Benefit of doubt: High court releases condemned man

LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday ordered the acquittal of a condemned prisoner giving him the benefit of doubt in a murder case against him.

The bench held that the accused may have been implicated in the case with malafide intentions.

Accused Muhammad Siddique was nominated in the case registered at the Kharian police station on November 19, 2002.

Musarrat Ehsan lodged an FIR saying that Siddique had killed her brother. She said they had an enmity with Siddique.

On July 15, 2007, an additional district and sessions judge found Siddique guilty and awarded Siddique a death sentence and a fine of Rs100,000.
