Ghazi Ilmuddin Shaheed: Court asked to reopen 82-year-old case

Petitioner prayed that Ghazi Ilmuddin Shaheed be honoured with state awards.

LAHORE: A constitutional petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) praying for re-opening the 82-year old case of Ghazi Ilmuddin Shaheed, who had killed a Hindu publisher for printing a book ridiculing the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and was sentenced to death by the LHC in 1929.

Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi of the Save Judiciary Committee filed this petition through his counsel Barrister Farooq Hasan.

The petitioner has invoked the constitutional jurisdiction of the High Court and requested the court to set aside the order by exercising principles of review.

He also prayed that Ghazi Ilmuddin Shaheed be honoured with state awards.

Citing an example from Ireland, the petitioner pleaded that the government be directed to arrange a state funeral for Ilmuddin Shaheed and declare him innocent.
