Pooja Bhatt has recently revealed that Sadak 2, the sequel of her 1991 hit film Sadak is in the works.

Sadak which turned out to a cult classic was one of Mahesh Bhatt's finest productions. Now, its sequel will be dealing with the issue of mental health, reports the Hindustan Times.

“We are making Sadak 2 in which we are showing Sanjay Dutt in his true and present time (Sanjay Dutt is a drug abuse survivor) so we are dealing with issue of depression in that film but we are making a commercial film,” she stated.

“We have to make our point and we chose film as our medium because when you choose a mainstream format then your message goes deeper and wider,” she added.

Mahesh Bhatt's original Sadak (1991), starred Sanjay Dutt, who essayed the character of a young man in love with a sex worker (played by Pooja Bhatt) and film was about Dutt's character fighting against all odds to be with her.

Commenting on the recent trend in Bollywood where content driven films are working at the box-office more than big-budget ventures with a power-packed star cast, Pooja said, “The audience has always been very smart. We, who call ourselves experts of the industry, supposedly underestimate the audience and say that they are not ready to see issue-based films. "

The Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin actor also asserted, "Today, there are no issues with the audiences and film-makers - but I feel now film-making has become a game of marketing.”

Pooja’s last produced film Cabaret, which starred Richa Chadha and Gulshan Devaiah, was scheduled to release in 2016 but the film is yet to hit the screens. Pooja says that the film will release when her partner Bhushan Kumar and Wave Cinemas “fairly and transparently release payment of my workers.”

“I would urge not to violate my copyrights, then only it will release,” she added.

The much-awaited sequel might be out sooner than you think, considering that Sanjay was recently spotted at Mahesh Bhatt's office with Pooja, reports Times of India.

In a recent interaction with a daily, Sanjay opened up saying that Mahesh Bhatt and he have had talks about Sadak 2. Stating that he would "love to do" the sequel, the actor further added that a script is already in place.

Rumours suggest that the sequel will see Pooja and Alia Bhatt playing a mother-daughter duo, Sanjay refrained from divulging any details.

It is also said that Mahesh Bhatt will mark his comeback as a director with the film. Excited much?

In the meanwhile, you can watch a young and stunning Pooja Bhatt alongside long-maned Sanjay Dutt in the super-hit song of the original Sadak:
