Governor to inaugurate three-day AERC conference

National, foreign economists, academics, diplomats to participate in event

KARACHI: Governor Mohammad Zubair will inaugurate the University of Karachi's (KU) Applied Economics Research Centre's (AERC) three-day international conference.
The conference titled, 'Towards Inclusive Governance and Efficient Institutions for Sustainable Development' will be organised by AERC and held between Tuesday and Thursday at the university's Husein Ebrahim Jamal auditorium.

Governor Zubair will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony while KU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan will preside over the sessions being held on Tuesday at the varsity's International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences Hall at 8:30am.
AERC Director Professor Dr Samina Khalil will also speak on the occasion. Eminent national and foreign economists, academics and diplomats will participate in the conference, including United States Consul-General in Karachi Grace Shelton, Australian High Commissioner Margaret Adamson, Canadian High Commissioner in Pakistan Perry John Calderwood, Dean and Director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Dr Farrukh Iqbal, former dean and director of IBA Dr Ishrat Hussain, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad Vice-Chancellor Dr Javed Ashraf, Dr Kaiser Bengali, World Bank Lead Economist Enrique Balnco Armas and United Nations Resident Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative in Pakistan Neil Buhne.

The speakers will also include Associate Professor from Jilin University, China Dr Syed Hasanat Shah, Professor Dr Usman Mustafa from Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, Islamabad, Sindh Planning and Development Department Chief Economist Dr Naeemuz Zafar, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology Dean of Faculty of Social Science and Education Professor Dr Riaz Ahmed Shaikh, IBA Associate Professor Dr Heman Das Lohano, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry Research Director Dr Bilal Ahmad and others.
