Students demand school repairs

Teachers and students fear that city administrators might declare school building unsafe and demolish it

RAWALPINDI: Students of Govt Ziaul Uloom School took to the streets of Raja Bazaar on Saturday protesting against the delay in the repairs of damaged class rooms.

The over a century old institution located in the prime location of Rawalpindi city has real estate value of billions of rupees, but its infrastructure is in shambles.

Teachers and students fear that the city administrators might declare the school building unsafe and demolish it to raise a commercial plaza in its place.

A strong and well-connected group has been after this land for some time, teachers said. The protesting students demanded repairs and provision of basic amenities for their school.

The other cases of encroachment of land include Islamia School for Boys Liaqat Bagh, Islamia School College Road, Islamia School, Circular Road, three schools at Khayyaban-i-Sir Syed, Mission High School, Ziaul Uloom and Shimla Islamia Schools at Raja Bazaar, Government High School Ghulshanabad and a land dispute at the education office in Bagh Sardaran.
