Pakistan, Turkey agree to promote bilateral ties with focus on trade, economy

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and his Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim have agreed to bolster bilateral relations in diverse areas with particular focus on trade and economy, said Radio Pakistan.

Addressing a joint press conference with Turkish PM on the sidelines of the ninth D-8 Summit, the premier appreciated Ankara for supporting the people of Indian-Occupied Kashmir (IoK), who are fighting for their right to self-determination promised under the United Nations (UN) resolution.

Khaqan Abbasi was also appreciative of Turkey for raising voice for Rohingya Muslims and Palestinians.

Earlier the two leaders had a candid discussion on ways to further strengthen the multi-faceted relations between the two brotherly nations.

The prime minister also appreciated Turkey's strong support for Pakistan's Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) membership.

Pakistan will continue to provide all possible support to Turkey on its issues of national interest, including Cyprus, he said.

Regarding the latest situation in Afghanistan, Khaqan Abbasi added, Turkey has always played a constructive role in facilitating peace through better relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The premier also acknowledged Ankara’s role in finding a political situation to the conflict in Syria as well as for graciously hosting millions of refugees.

He also lauded the country’s leadership in uniting the Muslim Ummah, as the Chair of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in the aftermath of the imposition of illegal restrictions by Israel around al Haram al Sharif and al Aqsa mosque.

In reply, the Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim also acknowledged that Pakistan and Turkey have always supported each other in the hour of need.
