Fire destroys WASA’s sewerage pipes

Officials say fire broke out after a heap of garbage was set ablaze by someone

MULTAN: A fire erupted at an open space near Chungi No 9, destroying high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sewerage pipes worth over Rs10 million, officials said on Thursday.

Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Spokesperson Hassan Bukhari said that the HDPE pipes were lying on the roadside near Wasa disposal station when the fire erupted. He added the fire broke out after a heap of garbage was set ablaze by someone.



Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 District Emergency Officer Dr Kaleemullah said that eight fire tenders, two fire brigades and an ambulance were sent to the site which extinguished the fire after hectic efforts.

Later, Wasa Managing Director Rao Qasim ordered an inquiry into the incident and deputed Works Director Naseem Khalid Chandio to conduct the probe and submit report within 24 hours.



Earlier, valuables worth millions of rupees were gutted after a fire erupted in a shop near Bohar Gate in Multan.

Rescue 1122 official said the fire erupted in a garment shop at Kalay due to an electric short-circuit. The fire engulfed the entire shop and destroyed furniture and other valuables. The firefighters controlled it after a struggle of one hour.
