Jacqueline Fernandez roped in for ‘Girl on the Train’ remake

Bollywood diva will be stepping into Emily Blunt's role from the original film

Jacqueline Fernandez, who is currently riding high on the success of Judwaa 2, has officially bagged the lead role in the Hindi remake of 2016 American mystery drama The Girl On The Train.

The star will be stepping into Emily Blunt's role from the original film, which was an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Paula Hawkins, reported Times of India.

The Te3n famed director Ribhu Dasgupta, who holds the official adaption rights for the film and book, confirmed the news of her casting.

"I have just finished the script. Jackie has come on board as the protagonist. While the novel had an ensemble cast, our film will revolve around her character,” he said. “I have been looking forward to working with her and this seemed like a perfect project to collaborate. You get together to make a film when people think alike in many ways and when I had met her, I discovered we were on the same page.”

A source close to the project revealed, “The film will be set in a small town but the makers are yet to figure whether they will be filming in India or abroad. Ribhu and his team will begin their recce soon and start prepping with Jacqueline by the year-end.”

While the lead star is currently busy shooting with Sushant Singh Rajput for Tarun Mansukhani's Drive, landing a plum project with a script that centers on her character is another reason for her to celebrate. Jacqueline is also set to start shooting for the Salman Khan, Bobby Deol-starrer Race 3 next month.

With a slew of exciting new projects lined up, she sure seems to be heading into a busy year ahead.
