ABBOTTABAD: Like other issues of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the appointment of a teaching hospital’s board chairman was also decided in the suburbs of Islamabad instead of Peshawar the provincial capital. Maj Gen (retd) Asif Ali Khan was elected chairman of Board of Governor of Ayub Medical Teaching Institutions (AMTI) Abbottabad for the next term in a meeting held at Bani Gala, the PTI designated capital of K-P. Health Minister Shah Ram Tarakai, Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar BOG Chairman Nowsherwan Burki and seven members of the AMTI board were present in the meeting.
The other nominee for the post of chairman was Dr Asim Yousaf of Shoukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. Ali’s appointment was widely hailed by the employees and staff of Ayub Teaching Hospital and Ayub Medical College Abbottabad. It may be noted that BOG was formed in March 2015 and Javed Panni was named as first chairman of BOG. However, few days ago, after the series of protests and strikes, K-P health department removed the BOG chairman.
