ISLAMABAD: Pakistani farmers should have power to access the resources they need to fight poverty and hunger, Oxfam’s Programme Director Javeria Afzal said.

“The planet produces enough to feed everyone, however the unequal access to resources compels the poor to migrate,” she said speaking at an event held to mark the World Food Day.

The event was held to raise awareness about food insecurity, migration and agricultural development in Pakistan. Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Bosan said the government of Pakistan is celebrating World Food Day in collaboration with UN agencies and other development partners, “to reiterate our commitment to the global concern to ensure food security.”

Oxfam had organised the awareness event along with FAO, WFP and the National Agricultural Research Centre.
