KARACHI:

To face economic challenges head-on and get the country out of deep waters, Pakistan should stay united as a nation and strive to achieve a unified goal, according to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad.

Addressing the business community late Tuesday night at the launch of “My Karachi - Oasis of Harmony 2011” exhibition, being organised by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Ebad said that extremism was at its height, and there several challenges facing the economy.

He urged people to work hard and create both investment and employment opportunities. He said a conducive environment for investments would help create job opportunities, which would consequently eliminate poverty and unemployment.

“There are elements in the country that are working to malign our investors and create fears, but we will rebound as we have before,” he said. “Whatever the business community has given to Karachi, Karachi will equally give it back to it.”

Sindh Minister for Information Technology Raza Haroon, in his address, said that though terrorism had been trying to bring a bad name for Pakistan for the last eight years, the country continued to progress due to the efforts of businessmen. He said that Karachi was the commercial hub of Pakistan, and if the city remained stable, then the entire country would remain positive.

Referring to the ‘My Karachi’ exhibition, to be held from July 22 to 24, Haroon said this was a commendable step that helped bring foreign investment.
