K-P plans month-long cleanliness drive

Campaign meant to increase awareness about importance of hygiene, sanitation

PESHAWAR: The top administration of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has decided to launch a month-long cleanliness campaign.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Muhammad Azam Khan has issued the directive for the cleanliness drives as a public service initiative.

The newly appointed top bureaucrat of the province has told the Water and Sanitation Cell, Local Government and Rural Development Department (LG&RDD) to do the job they get paid for.

The K-P administration will launch the province wide cleanliness drive in collaboration with Unicef, Plan International Pakistan, Penny Appeal, Care International and WASH Sector Partners from October 15 to November 19.

The aim of this campaign is to increase awareness and understanding among people about the importance of safe water, sanitation and hygiene across the province.

During the month-long campaign various activities will be organised at provincial and district level such as conference on sanitation, debate competitions at school and university level, stalls’ competition, capacity building workshops for concerned staff and awareness walks.

Elementary and Secondary Education Department, Peshawar and University of Engineering & Technology Peshawar will also support the government in organising debate competitions on the topics such as clean drinking water supply, hazards of impure drinking water for public health, sanitation and community hygiene at district as well as provincial level.

It will conclude on November 19 which is also the ‘World’s Toilet Day’ and a ceremony will be held to give awards, shields and certificates to the winners and runners up of debate competitions of schools and universities, stalls competitions and skits. In addition to best services of government employees and WASH partners.
