Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah said, on Saturday, that every citizen had the right to speak about the country’s economy.

Throwing weight behind the General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Khursheed Shah said that even the army chief could speak about the economy.

The statement comes days after Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s remarks on the country’s ‘sky high debt’ were severely criticised by the government.

Speaking to the media in Sukkur, the opposition leader said that Friday’s chaos created by the lawyers outside the accountability court could not be brushed aside.

Talking about the Khatm-e-Nabuwwat oath, he said that the Pakistan Peoples Party had resolved the matter in the Parliament but Captain (retd) Safdar had made matters worse.

On October 10, in an emotional speech, Safdar called for a ban on hiring Ahmadis in the armed forces and other important institutions of the country.

Criticising Capt (retd) Safdar earlier, Shah had said that people should not show off by raising such issues.

“We have already settled the matter in parliament and no one should make a fuss out of it,” he had said.

He said that Safdar’s remarks have opened up a new Pandora's Box for former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
