Absconders: Court notices put up outside Hassan and Hussain Nawaz's homes

Brothers told to appear before court within 30 days

LAHORE: An accountability court's notices have been put up outside the homes of former PM Nawaz Sharif's sons, Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, informing the two absconders to appear before court within 30 days.

The notices have been put up outsides their homes in Model Town and Jati Umra, Express News reported.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) also informed the authorities in UK that the former PM's sons had been declared absconders.

On Monday, Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir separated the trial of Hassan and Hussain from others in a NAB reference pertaining to the Avenfield apartments on Park Lane in London and declared them absconders.



He ordered the initiation of proceedings under Section 87 (absconding) of the Criminal Procedure Code against them.

The court issued the orders after Sharif’s sons failed to appear before the court despite repeated orders.

The court also recorded the statements of three NAB investigation officers who said the suspects were deliberately avoiding a court appearance and have absconded.

The court set October 13 as the date for the indictment of Nawaz, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar.

It granted bail to Sharif’s daughter and son-in-law against sureties of Rs1 million each after the former appeared in court and the latter was produced before the court by NAB, which had arrested him from the airport upon his arrival from London.

The court granted an exemption to Nawaz for the October 9 hearing on an application filed by his counsel, Khawaja Haris, stating that the applicant was forced to rush to London after finding out that doctors intended to put his wife on chemotherapy from October 11.



The court would indict Nawaz in all three references –Avenfield flats, Flagship Investment Limited and 15 other companies, as well as Al Azizia Company Limited and Hill Metals Establishment– filed against him. Hassan and Hussain have been separated from the three references.

Last month, NAB filed four corruption references against the Sharif family and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar with the accountability court.

 The references were prepared in light of the July 28 judgement of the Supreme Court in the Panamagate case.
