"Dasti, a BS-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), presently serving under the Sindh government, is promoted to BS-22 with immediate effect. On promotion, the services of Dasti will remain at the disposal of the Sindh government until further orders," read the notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat establishment division of the federal government.
Dasti is one of the senior police officers of the Sindh police, who has been a strong contender for the post of the Sindh IG as he has already served at various posts in the Sindh police as well as captain city police officer in Balochistan.
Civil society to go to court in support of AD Khawaja
As Dasti was appointed acting IG by the provincial government in April, after Sindh government sent Khawaja packing without getting the federal government's nod.
"It will be an open violation of the rules and regulations if a senior officer works under the command of the junior officer," explained a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.
"How will there be implementation when a junior officer will give directives to a senior officer?" he questioned, saying that it can affect the police force's discipline.
Sindh police chief back in the saddle
Meanwhile, Khawaja said that Dasti will not continue on his current post. "He [Dasti] cannot stay on the same post because he is a grade-22 officer .The government will decide his next assignment," Khawaja told The Express Tribune.
Not only Dasti, but other senior police officers, including Khadim Hussain Bhatti and Ghulam Qadir Thebo have also worked under the command of Khawaja. "Bhatti is the most senior police officer while Thebo is also Khawaja senior," he said.
