Flood rehabilitation: ‘7,000 houses to be constructed’

Seven thousand low-cost houses are being constructed in 43 flood-hit villages.

SUKKUR: Seven thousand low-cost houses are being constructed in 43 flood-hit villages of Kashmore-Kandhkot and Shikarpur districts, said Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO), Sukkur, CEO Dr Sono Khanghrani, on Monday.

Small schemes of streets, road network, toilets and water supply were also being planned by the Sindh government. Other poverty-alleviation projects have also been launched at a cost of Rs3 billion. Around 30,000 young men and women were technically trained through the SRSO. Another $15 million project that entails the cultivation of sunflowers is helping provide jobs to the flood-affected people.
