KARACHI: Police arrested on Sunday an employee of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MPA Ghulam Qadir Chandio over a road mishap in Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
Azeem was arrested after he hit a motorcycle and catering vehicle on Khayaban-e-Ittehad in the early hours of Sunday.
"The Toyota Corolla car registered to the Sindh Assmebly hit a catering vehicle and a motorcycle because it was speeding," said District South SSP Javed Akbar Riaz. "However, the MPA [Chandio] was not in the car."
SSP Riaz said that Azeem, who claimed to be a staff officer of the MPA, was driving the vehicle.
Road accident claims woman’s life
Police reached the accident site and detained the driver responsible for the accident, Riaz said, adding that there were no casualties. After some initial confusion, the motorcyclist injured in the accident was traced. Contrary to the claims of some witnesses, SSP Riaz said the motorcyclist was alive and was admitted to the intensive care unit at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre with critical injuries. He has yet to be identified.
He said that the police have now registered a case against the driver on behalf of the state and arrested him. Further investigation is under way.
