Envoy-designate to Malaysia calls on NA speaker

Nafees Zakaria assures Sadiq that he would strive to improve relations between the two countries

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s High Commissioner-designate to Malaysia Mohammed Nafees Zakaria on Friday called on National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq at the Parliament House.

Sadiq, during the meeting, lauded Zakaria’s services in promoting better relations with various countries and promoting the country’s national interest. He also appreciated his performance as the Foreign Office spokesperson and admired his efforts for highlighting Kashmir issue effectively.

The speaker also appreciated the assistance that the High Commissioner-designate extended to the Members of Young Parliamentary Forum (YPF) and others in the activities undertaken by them for the promotion of Pakistan’s national objectives.

With regard to relations with Malaysia, the speaker said that there is ample scope of cooperation between Malaysia and Pakistan, particularly in the economic sector. He said that like Pakistan, Malaysia is also rapidly developing country and both the countries can benefit from each other’s experiences.

Sadiq said there is a greater need to enhance the exchange of parliamentary delegations and people to people contact. He asked him to utilise his diplomatic experience to further improve the relations with Malaysia by presenting true colours of Pakistan and highlight prospects for trade and investment in the country.

Meanwhile Zakaria said that Pakistan and Malaysia have enjoyed cordial relations and he would strive for enhancing people to people interaction, exchange of parliamentary delegations and finding out venues to increase trade and investment between the two countries.

The designated envoy underlined that enhancing Pakistan’s trade and economic cooperation with Malaysia will be his top priority. He said that sizeable Pakistani community in Malaysia is an asset and he would work towards welfare of the diaspora.
