The hearing of the review petition against the Supreme Court’s verdict on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) was adjourned for two weeks on Tuesday due to the absence of Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani from the full court bench.
Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) Maulvi Anwarul Haq informed the sixteen-member bench headed by Chief Justice Ifitkhar Muhammad Chaudhry that the federation has asked for permission to change the counsel. The federation did not allow me to argue the case, he submitted. “There is no other option but to put up the matter before the full court, remarked the chief justice. Since Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has gone on sick leave, the bench could not resume the hearing of the review.
The day before, the Supreme Court had extended the deadline given to the federation by a day to nominate one of the counsels permitted by the apex court’s rules to argue the review appeal at the AGP’s request. Haw said he had suggested an alternative to the federation which he could not disclose to the bench. He had asked the full court to postpone the hearing of the NRO review appeal for a day.
Meanwhile, the solicitor general of the Law Ministry, Nasir Shah, has submitted a reply to the show cause notice issued to him on Monday for giving a misstatement before the court.
