Middle school students strut their stuff on the catwalk

Private school students organise summer fashion show.

Private school students in the district put on a fashion show showcasing summer attire on Monday.

Scores of students from different schools in the district modeled summer clothing in a series of segments including formal wear, casual clothing and party dresses. Most of the students prepared their own dresses based on latest fashion trends. “It was a lot of fun because we got to copy lots of styles from popular fashion magazines,” said 12-year-old Nadia, from the Ilm Foundation academy.

The fashion show included a dance performance by students of various schools as well as several dramatic skits. “We’ve been preparing for this event for over three months. We wanted to put on a big show and the students enjoyed it immensely,” said teacher Rukhsana.

The Vehari Private Schools Association organised the function and all participant’s parents were invited to the event. The parents of students also contributed money for flood victims at the event. “We asked people to donate money for the construction of homes for flood victims in the district and many did so. We managed to collect over Rs21,000 on the night,” said an event organizer Salman Tariq.

Students from grade one to six participated in the fashion show and parents said that they had been involved throughout the preparations. “My daughter came to me a month ago and said she wanted to take part. We planned her outfit together and it was a lot of fun seeing her model it on the catwalk,” said nine-year-old Shireen’s mother Naeema.

Teachers from different schools said that they had begin coordinating to choreograph dances and put on collective stage performances months before the event. “We initially had to bring the students together and teach them the steps. We also needed to collaborate on the fashion show and the skits. The kids had a lot of fun,” said a teacher Kashfa. “My best friend and I modeled with sunglasses and caps. It was a lot of fun,” said seven-year-old Rohail. Prizes were also distributed among the best performers of the evening and the guests appreciated the show immensely.
