IHC asked to help stop police harassment
A lawyer approached the court seeking its intervention against the alleged harassment from police, security officials
ISLAMABAD:
A lawyer has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking its intervention against the alleged harassment from police and officials of security agencies.
Petitioner Syed Ziaul Haq claimed that he and his family were being harassed without any reason for the past two years for an alleged connection to a proscribed organisation, Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HT).
In his petition, Haq stated that while studying at the International Islamic University, he was allegedly implicated in two false and frivolous case under section 11-G of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) on April 23, 2015, stating that he was a member of a banned organisation.
Even though the courts had acquitted him in the two cases, the petitioner said that police and officials of security agencies were continuously harassing him, creating hurdles and disturbing his family life without any criminal or civil cases against the petitioner.
On September 25, Haq said he was working at the district courts in Islamabad when his father called him and said that five unidentified people in a police van had visited their house in Sector I-10/4 and inquired about him.
