SHANGHAI:

A delighted Lewis Hamilton headed home after winning the Chinese Grand Prix, feeling positive that he can build a convincing title challenge and give defending champion Sebastian Vettel a tough time.

Britain’s Hamilton finished first in the third race of the season as Vettel’s run of two season-opening wins came to an end. The German was second for Red Bull ahead of Australian Mark Webber, who produced the drive of the day to finish third after starting 18th on the grid.

Hamilton made a near-flawless start to the season, driving with speed and confidence, and the Briton was clearly pleased with his performance

“I feel I’m driving as well as I can,” he said. “I definitely feel we’re in with a chance now. Our race pace is good and we just have to work on getting things going a bit better in qualifying.”

Meanwhile, a delighted Webber joked that he should always start down the grid after his heroics in Shanghai.

“Maybe that’s where I should always start,” he said. “But I’ve to say thanks to the team for the effort put in. To finish on the podium after starting 18th is pretty amazing.”
