Three government officials convicted in corruption case

Accused were also involved in preparing bogus appointment letters

SARGODHA: A court convicted three government officials for their involvement in embezzling millions of rupees in Sargodha.

The judgment was announced by Anti-Corruption Court Judge Muhammad Azam Saroya. The prosecution told the court that accountant Fazalur Rehman, clerk Ahmad Khan and Rescue 1122 official Safdar Iqbal had embezzled millions of rupees from the salaries of the staff, prepared bogus appointment orders and misused petrol funds.



The anti-corruption officers nabbed the accused and presented the challan before the court. After hearing the arguments, the judge handed down 20 years jail term to Fazalur Rehman and a fine of Rs3.8 million. The court also awarded 12 years imprisonment to Ahmad Khan and imposed a fine of Rs0.6 million. Besides, Safdar Iqbal was sentenced to three-year jail term and a fine of Rs0.6 million.

Earlier on September 20, two government officials were awarded six years imprisonment each for their involvement in embezzling millions of rupees in Sargodha.

The judgment was announced by Anti-Corruption Court Judge Muhammad Azam Saroya. The prosecution told the court that anti-corruption officials arrested a senior medical officer of Rural Health Centre (RHC) Waqar Hameed and accountant Farrukh Abbas, who embezzled millions of rupees from the salaries of RHC employees in 2008.



During interrogation, the accused also confessed to committing the offence. After a detailed investigation, the anti-corruption officials nabbed the accused and produced them before the court. After hearing the statements and considering the evidence, the court handed down six years imprisonment to both the accused and imposed a fine of Rs0.4 million on them.
