Investing in future: Gen Qamar says education key to enduring peace

Inaugurates APS in Swat and Ghallanai-Mohmand Gat Road in Mohmand Agency

PESHAWAR: Inaugurating the Army Public School and College (APS) at Kanju Garrison area of Khyber-Pakhtunkwa’s (K-P) District Swat, army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday said providing education to the youth is the best way to ensure enduring peace and stability in the country.

“There is no better approach towards enduring peace and stability than providing quality education to our youth,” General Qamar said while interacting with the students and faculty members of the newly built APS complex as well as local elders and the administration after the inauguration.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief was briefed on the infrastructure, laboratories, sport stadium and auditorium of the APS Swat, which has a capacity to accommodate 3,600 students.



General Qamar termed the complex ‘a gift’ from the Pakistan Army to ‘resilient people of Swat’ in recognition of their contributions and sacrifices in defeating terrorism. Earlier, he also inaugurated Ghallanai-Mohmand Gat Road in Mohmand Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

Speaking on the occasion, the army chief said country has witnessed peace and stability in recent years and it is also getting rid of militancy and terrorism due to support of the tribesmen.

“Development projects are the actual prong toward achieving peace and stability in the war torn parts of Fata and adjacent areas, and we are investing in Fata for brighter future of the country,” he said.



He said the project once completed will pave way for inter-agencies travelling and will also be potential way for trade with Afghanistan through Nawa Pass. He also appreciated efforts of engineers and workers for the project completion.

Earlier, the army chief was briefed on 41km project which also includes the 751m Nahakki Tunnel, connecting the border areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Phase 1 of the project, comprising 14 km road, has been completed while work on the remaining portion is under way. The K-P Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Corps Commander Peshawar and director general of the Frontier Works Organisation, which has undertaken the project, were present on the occasion.
