A few new details were leaked on Tuesday about Atari’s upcoming Ataribox console.

According to a report by VentureBeat, the company plans to sell the Ataribox through an Indiegogo campaign this fall for a price tag that lies between $250 to $300 range.

The device is, however, expected to be released officially in spring next year.

“Ataribox is an open system, and while our user interface will be easy to use, people will also be free to access and customise the underlying OS,” according to a statement by creator and general manager of the Ataribox Feargal Mac.

“We’ve chosen to launch Ataribox with Indiegogo given their focus on delivering technology products, and their strong international presence in over 200 countries, allowing us to reach and involve as many Atari fans around the world as possible.”

It will run a custom AMD processor with Radeon graphics along with the Linux operating system and a custom UI on top that will presumably make things a little more user-friendly for a TV interface and controller.

In terms of what games Atari plans to offer, the company announced that it plans to offer a mix of classic Atari titles along with some more modern PC games. They have cautioned fans not to expect the likes of Call of Duty to be playable on the device and expect more mid-range computer games such as Minecraft to be compatible with the upcoming device.
