Pakistan planning speakers’ conference on terrorism, Sadiq

Sadiq also shared his experiences with the delegation about the working and functioning of National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Tuesday said that Pakistan is focusing on how to tackle terrorism in the region and how to connect with each other.

For this purpose, the National Assembly is planning to host a conference in December and speakers from China, Russia, Turkey, Iran and Afghanistan will attend the conference, said Sadiq. He announced this while talking to a delegation of Balochistan Assembly which was headed by Speaker Rahila Durrani.

The NA speaker said that terrorism and extremism is now an international issue and this is the right time to fight against this menace collectively. He added that Balochistan is also the victim of terrorism and we are committed to identifying our enemy who spoil peace and harmony. That day is not far when we will root out these evils, he added.

The speaker said that development and prosperity in Balochistan is the top priority of the present democratic set-up. He stressed the need for closer liaison between democratic institutions for strengthening democratic process in the country. He assured all-out support of the National Assembly secretariat and PIPS in the fields of research, legislation and training for capacity building of members and staff of Balochistan Assembly.

Sadiq also shared his experiences with the delegation about the working and functioning of National Assembly and its standing committees. He also informed them of the steps taken for austerity measures in the secretariat while adopting the electrification requirements through solar energy and establishing a paperless office.

Meanwhile, speaker Balochistan Assembly thanked the NA speaker for his remarks and agreed with the speaker that there was a need for closer cooperation between the legislatures of the country. She also appreciated the steps taken by the federal government for the development and peace in the Balochistan. She also appreciated the training programs initiated at PIPS for capacity building of members and staff of the democratic institutions and expressed hope that these trainings would be helpful for better legislation.
