Unemployed pharmacists demand government jobs

Warn of nationwide protest if rights not protected

LAHORE: Pakistan Pharmacist Association and other pharmacist organisations celebrated the World Pharmacist Day on Monday.

The day is celebrated across the world for the rights of pharmacists. On the occasion, the members demanded jobs from the government for 7,000 unemployed pharmacists in the province. Speaking on the occasion, one of the members said, drug inspectors who were working on contract basis were not appreciated.

“A clinical pharmacist or hospital pharmacist should be appointed at every 10-bed hospital in the province. If the rights of pharmacists are not protected, a country wide protest will be announced.”

He said that they request the chief minister and chief justice of Pakistan to appoint one pharmacist at every medical store and pharmacy, so that medicines were provided to patients according to prescriptions.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Veterinary and Animals Sciences (UVAS) Lahore also observed the World Pharmacist Day. The aim of the day was to promote and advocate the role of pharmacists in improving healthcare around the world.

UVAS Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Nasim Ahmad led the walk while Dr Farzana Choudhry and a large number of students and faculty members took part in the walk.
