TEVTA approves Rs8.7b budget

Around Rs6.8b has been approved for non-development and Rs1,9b for development expenditures

LAHORE: The board of members of the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) approved a total budget of Rs8.78 billion for the fiscal year 2017-18 on Monday.

The volume, approved by the board of members, is Rs8.78 billion. Of the total,  Rs6.88 billion was earmarked for non-development and Rs1.89 billion for development expenditures.

TEVTA to send 4000 students to China for training

This was stated during the 60th board meeting held at the TEVTA secretariat. The authority’s chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh headed the meeting while other members of BOM, including Industries Secretary Mujtaba Paracha, Sajida Haider Vandal, Khurram Ismail and Nilofar Sikandar were also in attendance.

The board of members approved the start of classes at the first technical university of the country at the Government Emerging Technologies College Township and for this, Rs100 million was allocated.



Meanwhile, a purpose-built state-of-the-art campus of the university would also be established at the Government Technical College on Raiwind Road in Lahore.

The board of members approved a decrease in college fee for the second or evening shift of all TEVTA colleges. At the same time, pay scales of employees would be increased as per Punjab Government’s decision.



While addressing the meeting, the TEVTA chairman said that extending technical education was the priority of the Punjab government. “This is the reason TEVTA is focusing on three-year diploma programmes besides short courses.”

He added that for this purpose, TEVTA had decided to reduce the fees for evening classes in all DAE programmes.

He told the meeting that TEVTA was also achieving the target of providing skills to 0.2 million youth of the province. “No compromise will be made on the quality of technical education,” he added.
