KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to provide quarterly installments of funds to all 13 public sector universities in the province if they do not receive their share of funds from the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The HEC is presently the only source of funding for all public universities, and the funds are provided in installments. The Sindh education department wrote a letter to the finance department to provide funds to the public universities in case the HEC delays its payments.

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah assured the vice chancellors that if the federal government delayed funding then the provincial government would come to their rescue. Education secretary Naheed Durrani confirmed the veracity of the letter.
