FAISALABAD:

Energy is the engine of economic growth and people must conserve energy to provide maximum electricity to the industrial sector, according to Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) Board of Directors Chairman Nadeem Aftab Sindhu.

Addressing a seminar titled “Save Energy” on Saturday, Sindhu said Pakistan was bestowed with adequate resources of coal, water and solar energy, but previous governments failed to utilise these resources to achieve progress and prosperity.

“Inefficient planning is a major reason for the energy crisis and the nation must unite to overcome the present shortage. Students must also play their role in discouraging excessive use of electricity,” said Sindhu.

He informed that Fesco has launched an awareness campaign to educate people about saving electricity. “In this regard, we are focusing on younger generations, as developing a habit to switch off unnecessary appliances will yield results,” he added.

Other officials speaking at the event were of the view that energy-saving was a national cause, which would not only discourage wastage of power, but would also reduce electricity bills substantially. They claimed that 2.8 million Fesco consumers could save up to 300 megawatts of electricity by avoiding use of unnecessary bulbs.
