Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Law Barrister Zafarullah Khan has termed rejection of the review appeal of Panama Papers verdict unjustified, saying the top court had not served justice in the case.

"We respect and obey the judiciary but we think that the verdict was unjustified," Zafarullah told journalists outside the Supreme Court on Friday afternoon.

The statement came hours after the top court rejected appeal by the Sharifs to review its verdict in the landmark judgment that ousted Nawaz Sharif on July 28.

"We have faith in the constitution and institutions of Pakistan and appeared before Joint Investigation Team (JIT) whenever we were asked to, and never opposed any court verdict."

Zafarullah went on to add that Pervez Musharraf never had to face any JIT in any case. "We fear that our rights would be usurped, he said. “Neither did we get a chance to fair trial nor were our demands for justice, were met.”

"However, we will continue to render sacrifices until the courts deliver justice," he added.

The case against the former prime minister stemmed from the Panama Papers leak last year, which spurred a media frenzy over the extravagant lifestyles and high-end London property portfolio of the Sharif family.
