Featuring classical dancer Suhaee Abro in the lead, the film is shot in rural Pakistan. It tells the story of a village family who survive a siege by relatives and then fight to save their land from being encroached by a group of bandits.
Two Pakistani documentaries nominated for Emmys
This is not the director's first project - a short film Two Dosas that was released in 2014 earned him critical claim. This is, however, Britain's first Urdu film submission for an Oscar foreign film category.
Produced by Bill Kenwright The film's banner describes the narrative as “a violent contemporary Western but grounded in realism and crucially with a feminist theme.” The will hit theatres in UK on Spetember 15.
